Roger Williams came to the New World in 1631 with much the same hopes as the first Pilgrim Separatists. His heart’s desire was to see a pure church raised up, with no ties to the Church of England and its corruption, compromise, and oppression.
In the early 200s Christians were faced with state-mandated worship of gods they did not believe in. Thomas Jefferson, one of America’s founding fathers, could have spoken Tertullian’s stirring words about the rights of man in response to this persecution:
For as long as the sun has risen and the rivers have flowed to the sea, so has creation remained faithful. Her character has remained the same, constant, set, unchanging, still. For thousands of years the apple has fallen, the spider has spun, the salmon has fought, and the butterfly has expressed new life... so will the highest creation of all, mankind, continue to express his present state.
Satan will one day destroy half his house to exalt the other half. Isn't that a sign of his coming end? “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” is more than common sense. These words of our Master Yahshua were actually one of the most awesome prophecies of the entire Bible — the end of Satan, his finish!
Satan is intent on deceiving the whole world however he can, by whatever means he can. Since the fall of man in the Garden until the present day, he has attempted to lead the whole world astray:
